Monitors buying guide
Size, resolution and panel type together decide whether a monitor looks sharp and comfortable.
- For 24 to 27 inches, 1440p looks sharper than 1080p; 4K is best at 27 inches and above.
- IPS panels have good colours and viewing angles; VA has deeper blacks; both are fine for most people.
- For games, 120 Hz or more feels smoother, but your computer must be able to drive it.
- Check the ports, especially USB-C with power delivery if you use a laptop.
- A height-adjustable stand or a standard mount saves buying an arm later.
Common mistake: Choosing a huge screen at low resolution: text looks soft.
