Pet supplies buying guide
Size, safety and cleaning make the difference with pet products; this is general advice, so ask your vet about health.
- Measure your pet, and use the weight and size guidance, not the breed name alone.
- Choose washable covers for beds; you will wash them often.
- Check that toys are sturdy enough for your pet's chewing style and have no small parts that can come off.
- For collars and harnesses, check that you can fit two fingers under it and that it is adjustable.
- Introduce new food or litter gradually to avoid upsetting your pet.
Common mistake: Buying a size up 'to grow into' when a poor fit can be unsafe.
