Skincare basics buying guide
Skincare is mostly a few consistent basics; this is general information, not medical advice.
- A gentle cleanser, a moisturiser and a daily sunscreen cover the basics for most people.
- Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell what causes a reaction.
- For sunscreen, look for broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply as directed.
- Check the ingredient list for anything you know you react to, and patch-test on a small area first.
- Persistent or painful skin problems are best discussed with a doctor or dermatologist.
Common mistake: Starting several strong products at once, which makes it impossible to tell what helps.
