Toys and games buying guide
Age labels on toys are about safety as well as fun, so read them before you choose.
- Follow the age grading: toys for older children can have small parts that are a choking risk for younger ones.
- Check the number of pieces and batteries, and whether batteries are included.
- Building sets and puzzles are best matched to the child's patience as well as their age.
- For board games, check the player count and typical play time on the box.
- Look for clear safety marks required in your country.
Common mistake: Buying for the age you hope they are, rather than the age on the box.
